QUESTION:
How do I turn my black hair into turquoise or purple hair permanently?
Firstly, what color do I dye it first? Do I bleach it or what? Secondly, where can I find permanent hair dye in funky colours like turquiose or purple? I'm lookin' for a Raquel Reed sort of colour. I live in a small town, so I'll probably have to order it online.-
ANSWER:
Is your hair naturally black or have you been dying it? If you've been dying it: Bleaching dyed black hair is a /pain/, i'd suggest waiting a long time until it fades as much as you can deal with, or going to a professional. Second, there's no such thing as a permanent color. Even if it says permanent, it'll eventually fade to a less vibrant color. Rainbow colors especially, are never permanent, and even if it says it, it's not.To do purple or turquoise from a dark hair color, assuming your hair is undyed, you need to bleach your hair. I'd suggest reading up online about this process - learn as much as you possibly can about how to care for your hair. Bleaching is a permanent color removal, once you do it you will only be able to get back to your natural color by dying it to that color. You can also seriously damage your hair beyond repair if you do it improperly. Bleaching consists of mixing a bleach powder with a developer - they range in levels from 10-40, 10 being the weakest and 40 being the strongest. If your hair is naturally dark you might want to use 20 or 30, 40 is very strong, and I'd suggest not using it unless you really have a good grasp on bleaching. After you bleach your hair, DO NOT shampoo it, or condition it. Towel dry it, let it air dry, and then apply the color.
The color itself? There's lots of brands: Special Effects, Manic Panic, Punky, Stargazer, Directions, the list goes on. My preferences are Special Effects and Punky colors, manic panic stays in my hair all of a few washes. I've added some places that sell them, When you apply the hair dye, leave it in for as /long as you can possibly stomach/. I leave it in my hair minimum for 2-3 hours, i've left it in my hair as long as the whole night before. This is about as permanent as you can get. I've used SFX's Virgin Rose and after leaving it in for one night, it literally only started to fade after 1 month. Then, just rinse, and enjoy your hair.

QUESTION:
How can I dye my hair a bright colour?
Recently i have been seeing many girl with bright neon dyes in their hair i.e blue, purple, etc.
I would love to dye my hair bright "unnatural" colours. But i don't really know how. I understand you must use bleach. My mother has been dying her hair pink for years. But i only want strips of my hair brightly dyed. How can i do this at home?-
ANSWER:
use foils to seperate the streaks of hair you want to colour.use a 30vol developer and a blue bleach powder. it should say on the powder packet what quantities of each to mix together. bleach the hair untill it is the colour of the inside of a banana.
then shampoo out. then paint on your bright colour (manic panic amplified is usually the best) wrap in cling film and leave on for as long as you can, even overnight.
it will say leave on for half an hour, but to get a longer lasting, brighter result you can leave it on for hours. manic panic is moisturising, so dont worry about it damaging your hair.
then rinse and condition, and dont wash your hair for two days afterwards.
hope this helps

QUESTION:
what's the best way to tone platnium blonde hair?
I want my hair to be white as, I have tried purple shampoos but they just turn my purple.
Is there any other way to tone my hair?-
ANSWER:
Bleach will leave yellow and orange in hair, if you want it white you need to use a toner (made specifically to make hair white). I got my hair white (from black) by bleaching it twice (that left it yellowish/orangish) and then I put in manic panic 'virgin snow.' I don't think sallys sells that anymore because it was discontinued but you can get it on the internet, and it actually left my hair in better condition.Another good toner is wella white lady and silver lady. Sallys sells these 2 toners, but unlike manic panic, you will also have to buy a bottle I'd 20 volume developer to mix with it. The silver lady is for very stuborn hair that don't seem to go white no matter what you do. You might have to use it twice and it might turn your hair grey at first but then its white after you wash it again.
I would deff use manic panic virgin snow if I were you its worked better than anything else I've tried but if you don't want to buy something off the internet try wella white lady and then then go from there.
You can also try leaving the purple shampoo in for like a half hour to 45 minutes with heat applied, that usually works better than just using it in the shower.
Good luck (:

QUESTION:
Do I have to bleach my hair if I want blonde highlights?
My hair is a dark brown. I have dyed it several times, but only to colors that I did not have to bleach for (black, auburn, dark purple). Now I want blonde highlights, but I want to know if I have to bleach to get them.
I can't bleach because my hair is very curly and coarse, and I already have to deep condition.-
ANSWER:
Ok, first let me tell you that in order to get a lighter shade you need a lift. The more shades lighter you want to go, the more lift you need. Lifting refers to the process of lifting away the color from the hair, then you would have to deposit the desired shade and tone. The two products used to lift are:
1) hydrogen peroxide: a developer mixed with a hair dye or with bleaching powder. The higher the developer's power (ex. 40 or 50) the faster and more lift it will produce. It stops developing after an hour.
2) bleaching powder: a lightening powder, that when mixed with a developer(hydrogen peroxide) strips the hair shaft of it's color. It will keep lightening and discoloring the hair until it is completely washed out. You must shampoo the hair in order to stop the lightening process. Now, there are two ways to get that extreme lift you want.
1) You use hydrogen peroxide(I recommend a 40 lift power for you) and bleaching powder and make a creamy paste and apply it to the hair you want highlighted. Let it develop covered, then rinse and shampoo. (this is the most common way to do highlights)then apply a toner or semi-permanent color(follow the instructions on the box or bottle) that will give the highlight shade(s) you want.2) You will never see this method used in a salon, but it's a way you can get around bleaching. You must use a highlighting cap for this. NO FOILS OR METAL. You can't color random pieces because it will color other hairs it touches. Ok, so you can either
A) use a 40 or 50 developer with the blonde color you want. Available at beauty supply stores.
B) buy a box of permanent hair color in the shade you would like at any drugstore, but it MUST say "SPECIALLY FORMULATED FOR DARK HAIR" or along those lines. It means the developer is a higher power and easily allows a high lift.Once the desired hair has been pulled out of the cap apply the color mixture and let develop covered with a clear bag or cap. Average development is 30 minutes, but since your hair is dark you can leave it on for a good 45 minutes. Rinse out, but don't shampoo your hair or else it will fade and might look strange, wait at least 3 days before you shampoo.
This method will damage your hair, but not as much as bleaching. The higher the power of the hydrogen peroxide the more damaging it is, but since you want to go from one extreme to another you need a high lift developer.

QUESTION:
How to strip my hair from purple to go blonde?
before I dyed my hair purple, I had dark blonde/bleach blonde hair.My hair has faded a lot, and my natural(light brown) roots are starting to show. I'm thinking about going back to blonde, like a natural pearl blonde or a silver blonde. How would I go buy doing this? Would I strip my hair of colour first or bleach it and then apply a colour? I really don't want my hair turning green and no, I'm not getting it done professional thank you!
Recommend products please
-
ANSWER:
In my experience stripping products do not work as they are intended, if at all.Cleanse the purple with this (supplies can be purchased at Sally Beauty)
1 scoop bleach
2 oz 30 volume developer
2 oz. warm waterApply to damp, almost dry hair, try to keep it off your roots. Using your gloved hands work the product into the mid-lengths and ends. Put on a shower cap and lightly wrap your head in a towel to trap the heat. Do not leave on for more than 30 minutes. Shampoo twice, lightly condition and dry. Now you can formulate your color needs based on what you got from the cleanse. If your hair still has a purple tint, you can use a Golden Blonde semi-permanent to neutralize the purple. If it has a pink tinge, I'd go with a mix of Natural and Ash Blonde.
Your roots are a different story though, you will need to use a permanent hair color on them, and it will depend on how light your hair becomes from the cleanse. Take a friend with you and use the swatches to determine what level you are at and what level you want to achieve.
TIPS: This may be a process, be patient. Don't bleach again after the cleanse. If anything you can use a Dark Blonde color all over, (not ashy) to have something that you can live with while ou perform weekly conditioning treatments to protect the integrity of your hair.
Having blonde hair overnight would be great but if it means disgusting amounts of breakage, and an unhealthy mess, then what's the point?

QUESTION:
How much bleach would it taken to bleach my short hair?
So i have short hair and i bleached the top layer back in June and some of my hair has grown out. the layer from where i bleached my hair is now and orangeish color.. im planning on bleaching all my hair this time to a WHITE blonde and im not sure if i need a 20 volume or a 10 volume and how much bleach i need. I want to use the manic panic flash lightning bleach on my hair, i've heard it works pretty good.-
ANSWER:
Okay, wait!If you want your hair white blonde/platinum, you can't simply bleach it for longer and hope it works. Your hair will always turn out orange or yellow unless you use a toner. Follow these steps, TRUST me.
1. Go to a Sally's Beauty Supply or similar beauty supply store.
- Get True Blue or another blue-based bleach powder.
- Get 30 volume developer. (10 or 20 will burn your head, if you aren't a professional and don't know what you're doing. 30 is the safest.)
- Get Wella: White Lady toner (or another blue or purple based toner).
- Get a pair of gloves, a mixing bowl, an applicator brush.
- Get a GOOD strengthening/anti-breakage conditioner.
2. Mix the bleach powder with 1.5 ounces (about one and a half shot glasses full) of developer.
3. Apply to your hair, then to the roots. Do NOT rub in. Do NOT work into your scalp.
4. Use a hair dryer and blow over the top of your hair, getting it warm all over.
5. Depending on your hair length, let it sit for about 30 to 45 minutes.
6. Rinse out thoroughly with cool to lukewarm water and a mild shampoo.
7. Dry hair.
8. Mix the entire bottle of Wella toner and an equal amount of the 30 volume developer together. (You can just fill up the toner bottle with the developer and then you have the exact amount)
9. Move QUICKLY, and make sure there's GOOD ventilation!
10. Work quickly over your hair, making sure to get all over.
11. Leave in for NO MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES.
12. Rinse thoroughly.
13. Now use your conditioner. You can also use a blue or purple shampoo to help tone the brassiness down.
14. Dry and style as usual.
This absolutely will make your hair white blonde.

QUESTION:
How do I keep my blond hair from turning brassy?
Everytime I color it it turns orangy at the roots, how do I fix it or prevent it?-
ANSWER:
Use a purple shampoo and conditioner. This maintains your blonde color and neutralizes brassy tones. If after a while of using you find your hair starts to look a little too ashy, just swap it with normal shampoo and conditioner and use the purple stuff occasionally. What I do for yellow roots is I take some purple conditioner and massage it into the roots, leave it on very thick and wait a few hours, then wash it out. If the conditioner you have isn't strong enough, you can use a blue-violet toner (this usually needs to be mixed with developer) Or you can mix some Manic Panic purple dye into your conditioner. If you mix your own, be very careful, a drop is enough to color half a bottle of conditioner (conditioner mixed with manic panic will have a stronger color than normal purple conditioner, so you need to mix it only to a very light lavender shade). If, after your conditioner, it is still brassy, just repeat it, the worst that could happen is it will become a bit too purple, which just washes out anyway, and the conditioner will make it very soft. If your hair is a light enough shade, you can use Manic Panic's "Virgin Snow" which is a toner used to get rid of brassiness in very light shades of blonde, but it won't work unless your hair is bleached to at least a level 10.
Alternatively, if your hair is VERY orange, you may need to leave the bleach on longer on your roots or do a second pass, and then use the purple stuff. This is sometimes the case for those who have dark red or black hair.

QUESTION:
How do I color my hair from dark brown (my natural color) to platinum blonde?
I know I have to pre-lighten, has anyone got any recommended products? And do I use permanent colour straight after lightening my hair or what?-
ANSWER:
Her hair's like...really really light. But i guess you'd just have to change some of the products.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coLZbvn-hJw
Below are listed all of the products needed:- Goldwell Oxycur Lightener and 30 Vol. Topchic Developer: Mix one scoop of lightener and 30ml developer. Leave on for 30 minutes up to 45 minutes max. If you're going platinum, you would need to bleach 3 times all together and then apply a purple based toner.
This product 'foams' during the developing time, so don't just "paint" it on. Use your hands to work the bleach in. Make sure you apply just enough so it doesn't get dry before the 30-45 minutes, it'll really damage your hair! *DO NOT USE HEAT WITH THESE PRODUCTS!
You can buy these two products from hello-gorgeous.net
Additional products: the following products can be found online, or in most drug department stores.
- Hot Oil
- Dumb Blonde Reconstructor
- Silver Expressions shampoo & conditioner
- Fanci Full Ultra White Minx toner (temporary- washes out in one shampoo)
- Igora Gloss Iceflower toner (fades after about 10 washes)Like I said, it will take awhile before your hair is manageable again. Be patient and very gentle with your hair! Don't blow-dry. If you do, make sure you use the setting where it's cool air, not hot. Don't shampoo for the FIRST week- just use conditioner, hot oil, and the reconstructor.

QUESTION:
What would happen if I put too much toner in my hair bleach?
Would it make the bleach not work? Or what?
I meant the cream developer.-
ANSWER:
it really depends on what colour you are going. if your aiming for a blonde, then putting too much toner in your bleach can turn your hair purple if left on for too long.
it can also make the bleach useless because a toner and bleach shouldnt be mixed. You are supposed to use a toner when you shampoo, and your supposed to mix a bleach with a developer at an equal ratio.

QUESTION:
How soon can you fix two toned hair?
i dyed my sisters hair. it was black and she wanted to go red. (dont ask why) but i told her before we did anything that her regrowth was going to be the color of the dye and that the black dyed hair was gonna be black or purple. sure enough that happend. now she wants to bleach it and re-dye it. How soon is it recommended to wait to do the bleaching and dying?-
ANSWER:
tint doesn't lift tint. slapping on light brown hair color won't do anything!maybe try a soap cap? 1 part bleach, shampoo, conditioner & 5 volume developer (all equal parts)
don't massage into the scalp right away. hopefully her hair will lift enough to color, if not you will probably have to bleach it out.
after the soap cap (if it works or the bleach) mix the color with water, apply it to the hair. this will act as a filler. do not rinse it out! go right over the filler and with the color and developer.
you can do it right away, just warn her that since she didn't listen, you can't be held responsible for what the next outcome is! oh and i recommend deep conditioning her hair for a few weeks afterwards. oh and make sure she is using color safe shampoo & conditioner!
good luck =)

QUESTION:
What do I need for bleaching my hair again?
So I went to the hairdressers to get my hair bleached and the tips a sort of yellowish. I want to bleach my hair again to get it more platinum blonde but this time I want to do it myself and I know how to bleach it, I was just wondering what I need?-
ANSWER:
Bleach powder and developer. If the ends are a light yellow I would use ten volume bleach mixed with shampoo and leave it on the ends for only a very few minutes. Watch it CAREFULLY. Bleach is very scary stuff. Over All I would recommend a toner. It will take out the yellow and be less damaging to the hair. Never apply straight bleach to already bleached hair. Your hair may break off! Also try purple shampoo. It works wonders.

QUESTION:
what is the difference between bleach and developer?
i don't know anything about dying hair. i have dark brown, almost black hair. i want to bleach some of it so that i can dye it purple. can someone explain to me what the difference between developer and bleach is and what 20, 30, 40 or whatever volume means? what is toner and what is it for? also, do you think i would be able to make any of my hair completely white/platinum, or is it too dark? if i can get it that light, let me know how please, thanks
-
ANSWER:
Developer is peroxide. It's used with Color or Powered Bleach. A toner is used when the tint/tone of your hair isn't right or want you wanted. (Ex: bleached hair can sometimes look orangeish, a toner will make it more of a white or blonde) 20 volume developer is a low volume and when used, won't have a real dramatic effect on your hair like 40 volume will. If you only want to bleach a small portion of your hair, use a 10 or 20 volume developer and a powdered bleach. (You mix the powder and developer) You can buy the developer & bleach powder seperatly or in a kit (ex: beyond the zone blonde bleaching kit or Splat lighting kit) Bleaching kits and developer is only sold in stores like Sally Beauty Supply. You can also use a box bleach though. Look for a really light blonde and make sure it's a bleaching type of dye or else it won't do anything to your hair. I do not recommend box bleaches. They're usually a 30 or 40 developer which will kill your hair. I highly recommend a Kit from Sally's Beauty Supply. The directions are easy to follow and perfect for someone who's never bleached/dyed hair before. If you want a white/platinum, it is obtainable with dark hair, but it will highly damage your hair. You can lighten it quite a lot in one bleaching, but it will thin your hair. I suggest bleaching it every 2 to 4 weeks progressively until you have your desired color. But take note; when you bleach your hair it will mostly turn a yellow or orange color. This is fine if you plan on coloring over it with purple, but you'll need to use a toner or bleach it again to get rid of that yellow/orange tint. When you do dye it purple, use a semi-permanent dye like Manic Panic or Punky Colour (Punky colour is only sold at Ulta and online). Anything like Splat, beyond the zone, and speical effects WILL bleed onto fabric while your hair is wet and fades very quickly and unevenly. And a lot of semi-permanent dyes can be used while hair is damp. I tried this several times, it always ends up uneven or not as vibrant. So I suggest using while hair is dry and porous. The more you bleach, the more porous your hair will be and the lighter your hair, the more vibrant the purple/unnatural color will be.
If you decide to bleach your hair to a white, you need to care good care of your hair. Use leave in conditioner, repairing treatments and try not to wash your hair with shampoo right after dyeing/bleaching. If you blow dry/curl/ straighten your hair ALWAYS use a protecting spray, oil or cream. You don't want your hair to burn, break or tear.
Sorry this was so long. A lot of info haha! Hope this helped! Have fun and be careful! (: Healthy Hair is Happy Hair!<3

QUESTION:
What is the best way to go back to blonde, from black, with brittle hair?
I understand that it is going to be a long process, but I would like to know the correct products and steps to take to get back to a healthy blonde color.-
ANSWER:
i have just finished doing this same thing. here's what i did:1.deep condition hair to get it ready for all the nasty chemicals youre about to ruin it with
2.bleach hair. i used this purple bleach (i cant find it online, but i got it at sally beauty supply) the purple bleach will just help take out some of the brassy tones. but you can really use any bleach, either a powder that youll have to mix with developer yourself or a bleach kit which is easier.
3.bleach again. your hair is probably a light orange color so youll need to bleach it AT LEAST once more. i bleached mine 3 times in one night, but your hair might not be able to handle that. be careful. you might want to wait a week between each bleaching, &youll have to deal with the orange temporarily. also, between bleachings you should deep condition your hair as much as possible.
4.once youve bleached it to the lightness you want, you need to tone it to the right color. its probably a light to dark BRIGHT yellow right now. if you want a white blonde, you may want to use something like "white lady" toner by Wella, but you will have to bleach your hair to almost white before you use this toner or it wont take.
5.use purple shampoo. i use purple shampoo every other time i wash my hair. you dont need to use it every single time, just use it whenever your hair has a brassy look and itll take that right away!
this is what worked for me. hope it works for you! good luck
dont get discouraged and give up when your hair is orangey &nasty. just be patient!
also, when your hair is bleached to the white stage, dont bleach it any more. itll break. your roots will most likely get to the white color at about the 3rd bleaching, so just bleach an inch away from the roots &you should be fine!

QUESTION:
How long do you have to wait to dye your hair after its been bleached?
I want to dye my hair bright red like Rihanna had hers, but my hair is naturally dark brown so I need to bleach it but my mum won't let me so iwas wondering how long you have to wait after bleaching your hair to put a colour on it so I know if I can do it with her realising. And do you know where I can buy a good bleaching product from?
Any help would be great thank you xxxx-
ANSWER:
1.) Bright red hair dye will always be semi permanent, most semi permanent dyes do not damage your hair at all. So basically whenever your ready, you can dye it.2.) To get Rihanna red hair you have to get your hair bleach blonde, which will cause hella' damage which is fine if YOUR cool with it.
3.) Do NOT bleach your hair yourself, it is extremely dangerous, damaging and hard. Especially if you have no experience with bleaching your own hair.
4.) If you insist on bleaching it yourself, I don't care. It's not MY hair but I have been dying my hair bright colors for about 2 years now and I don't even have the balls to bleach my whole head from a dark color. Anyways, here is what you'll need:
-A bucket of powdered bleach, trust me the cheap little packets are not worth buying. 2 aren't even enough to do my roots.
-Developer. Preferably volume 30, NOT 40 or 50. 40 and 50 will get your hair blonder faster but will destroy your hair in the process. Use 20 or 30 and bleach it in sessions every other week to save your hair a lot of damage.
-A bowl, non metal to mix your bleach powder and developer.
-A tint brush for precision.
-Gloves. Bleach stings, you don't want it on your hands. Trust me.
**Optional but recommended:
-A toning or "purple" shampoo to get ginger tones out of your hair.
-moisturizing, damage therapy conditioner.
-Leave in conditioner.
-Hot oil treatments. To restore your now dry, dead hairs natural oils.
-Moisturizing hair mask.

QUESTION:
How do you bleach hair blonde?
I have a bottle of peroxide and about 5 packets of bleach powder. I want to know the following:
- How much should I mix cause I have Dark brown hair.
- Will it go completely orange?
- How long should I leave the bleach mix on my hair for?
- What equipment should I use?
And Lastly How should I apply the bleach mix? Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
ok peroxide-NO.
you need developer. not peroxide. get a 40 developer from a store and since you have a lot of bleach packets, get a lot. or i would also recommend just getting, i think it's called super blonde lightening kit, or something along the lines of that, at a drugstore. it's made for people with dark hair, it's got better ingredients and you're probably better off with that, but if you just use what you have- definitely get developer because peroxide will just burn your hair off.
- the amount you should mix doesn't depend on your hair color, it depends on how much hair you have. start with a packet first and you can always add more in. if your hair is long and/or thick, you'll probably need like 3 but start with one and you can add more in as you go along.
- to be honest, yes it will probably go orange. especially since it's dark brown. also, if you have color on your hair, like if it's dyed, it will definitely go orange. a way to do it without going orange- it'll take a lot of time, you might wanna have a friend help you- is do platinum cards. if you ever noticed, when you highlight hair that's dark, it doesn't go orange but when you bleach a full head it does. that's because when you highlight hair, you take smaller sections so it's easier to lift. platinum cards is basically taking thin chunks of hair and foiling them like highlights except all of the hair. i don't think that's a proper term for it but basically, take thin sections all throughout the hair (thin, but wide) and just put them in foils and smooth it down the bleach. fold it up in the foil and make sure your whole bleaching section is in small sections with foils. i know it sounds confusing but it'll come out way better if you do that.
- as for the time, just open a foil or two after about 30 minutes and see how light it gets, if you want it lighter, either put a blow dryer on it or just sit longer. you'll probably have to leave it for like 40 minutes
- yuo just need a bowl to mix it in, gloves for sure and a brush for hair color would be really helpful. but you really don't need any special equipment
- to apply the bleach mix, just use a brush, or oyur hands, take a little glob or the mix and cover the strand of hair with it. if you don't know, just look up videos on youtube of people dying their hair. it's the same thing. it helps though if you have a brush.**** definitely get a purple based shampoo after this, like Shimmer Lights, because it will either be brassy or yellow. and you might not notice it at first, but shimmer lights takes allll the brassy and yellow tones out, trust me, it's worth getting especially since you have dark hair. also, i would recommend Joico K-pak shampoo and conditioner. it's a little pricey but it's godly for damaged hair. it keeps it realllly healthy and not damaged.
good luck

QUESTION:
What do I need to get from sally's to bleach my hair blonde? What volume developer, what's your experience?
I don't want to just ask the workers, they might not even know! But someone who's used the stuff, what do I need to get get> thanks!-
ANSWER:
The best brand of developer and powder bleach is Salon Care
ALWAYS use 20% vol.
Anything more than that will fry your hair.
30% vol if you have dark hair.
But seriously, stay away from 40% vol. Promise me.
Depending on your hair color, it may take a few sessions to achieve platinum blonde.
Leave at least a day between bleaching sessions, longer is always better. Preferably a week.
Between sessions, you'll want to deep condition the s*** out of your hair to restore it back to health,
Sallys have some pretty inexpensive ones.
Be sure when bleaching you use a non-metalic bowl.
And do a strand test! It'll help you figure out how long you need to leave the bleach in.
It could be the difference between luxurious hair and fried straw.
Pick up a toner, Wella have one I believe, can't remember the number, its a purple toner.
You'll need to mix that with a bit of developer and apply for 15 minutes or so to remove any brassy/yellow tones.
After that, use a toning shampoo, also purple, I recomend Shimmering Lights.
Only use that once a week, and just condition your hair as much as you need.
Get regular hair cuts after bleaching.
When you do your roots, the same process applies.
Hot oil treatment is a life saver as well.Hope it all goes well! (:
EDIT:
The toners are either;
T10 - Ivory lady for really platinum hair
or
T11 - Princess blonde

QUESTION:
How can i make my hair more vivid and noticable next time I dye it?
I dyed my hair a few days ago onto slightly faded black hair (also dyed) the colour i was aiming for was like a purply red colour kinda thing, however, it hasnt shown up very well, and i suspect this is because it was going on top of black. what can I do next time to make it more bright and noticable?-
ANSWER:
if you are aiming to color the whole thing you can get some basic bleach from a store like sallys (personal favorite kaleidocolor blue) mix with 30 volume developer and some shampoo. its called a soak cap... not as harsh as just bleach mix. cover with a shower cap to hold heat in. (if anyone you know has an overhead dryer it will speed the process up but DO NOT use a blow dryer!!) check lightness every 5 minutes by taking a piece of hair and spraying with water and blotting with a paper towel. if you are having a hard time lightening rinse it all after 20 mins or so of trying, dry and reapply. you will want to lighten to a ugly red shade but dont worry your purple red will cover it beautifully. ^_^

QUESTION:
My Manic Panic hair color didnt turn out the color I wanted it to. What did I do wrong?
I recently bought Manic Panic hair dye in the color Ultra Violet. I bleached the areas I wanted purple (the bleach didnt work so well, my hair was an orangy-yellow color afterwards) and left the dye in for 2 hours. After I rinsed it out, I rinsed it in vinegar, like it says on the site. I then blow-dried my hair to see how it came out. You could barely see the purple, and in some spots my hair was the same color as before I bleached it! It was also a little blue in some areas.
the next day I washed and conditioned it as normal and the color was a little more noticable and purple, but still not the color I wanted.
Should I re-bleach it and put in the Manic Panic again, or will it fade eventually to the color I want?
Please help!-
ANSWER:
A few things could've went wrong.1. Bleaching...if you had dyed your hair and then tried bleaching it, the bleach will strip that color but not make it as light as it would've been on natural hair OR you didn't leave it in long enough (45-60 minutes) OR you didn't use a high enough level of developer (30 or 40 voulme is best for dark hair).
2. Manic Panic.....from my experiences with that stuff (most of them bad) is that their colors don't always come out right especially if the dye has been sitting around for a while (like a few months or a year) and tend to change shades in the bottle/jar. Also, for a color such as Ultra Violet you hair must be bleached to a light pale blonde (like the inside of a banana peel) since it's supposed to be a bright blue-violet color.
My soloution is to fade out the haircolor by mixing some baking soda in with your shampoo. rinse with comfortably hot water then repeat. towel dry then deep condition. Wait about 24 hrs and use a powder bleach (such as this one here http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/1462/320832) with 30 volume cream developer (as seen here http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/1470/320826 and here http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/1470/760675)
Also I recomend using Special Effects haircolor instead of Manic Panic (colors here http://specialeffectsusa.com/hair_dye.html)
Special Effects has the best bright colors and they're consistant....I think Wildflower should mach what you're looking for.
Good Luck!

I am going to put some blue and purple colour in my black hair (im a Guy not a Girl) so i need steps of how i need to dye my hair properly and do i need to use bleach. Also where can i get blue and purple hair dye from Melbourne(Australia)
-
ANSWER:
1st. deep condition the hell out of ur hair
2nd. get a color zap kit from revelon or something and follow the instructions in the packet to get rid of the dye in your hair( if ur hair is dyed) warning it smells really bad
3rd. get a packet of bleach and mix it well with level 30 or 40 of developer in to a bowl
make it the right concistensy dont make it to thick or to liquidy
4th. get some gloves(cuz it fuckin burns) and some application brushes and put the bleach on your hair evenly PUT IT 1 OR 2 INCHES AWAY FROM OUR ROOTS
5th. leave it on for about 30 minutes, be careful with it cuz bleach strips away your hair color
6th. wash it out really friggin well
7th. use a purple toner and follow the instuctions, this will take away all the yellow from ur hair to make the purple or blue brighter
8th.if its orange then wait like 2 days to repeat 4-7 and in the mean time DEPP CONDITION THE F*CK OUT OF UR HAIR
9th. use the color dye you want to use and follow the instructions.
10th. use a filler so the color will stay in longer.
11th. rinse everything out of your hair
12. DONT wash ur hair with shampoo or condidtioner for 4 hours or the color will wash off
13. and once again DEEP CONDTION THE FRIG!!!
i really hoped this helped
get all the things u need at sallys beauty supply, i THINK they have them there, im not sure, or just go to anny other beuty supply store
as for bleach i like quick ble, its in a blue little pacage for abouut 2 $
for color u should use either manic panic, punk, or color fiend
all of this is really inexpensice the developer only costs about 4$
and the hair dye about 12$
DONT USE METEL in your hair while bleaching or dying
have a friend while doing this, so you will have another opinion, and so ur hair wont look like crap
and u may want to use a hair color treatment, a hair mask, split end mendor or someother crap.
it depends on how damaged, healthy, think, or thin your hair is. any questions?? just email me or something!!!
good luck!!

QUESTION:
How to bleach my hair white?
Okay, i have light brown hair (it's got lighter and kinda blonde tint to it since i've been in the sun) please don't tell me not to do this, and all the things that can go wrong. So that pretty much sums it all up, thank you <3-
ANSWER:
You cannot get hair white with bleach alone, and you shouldn't attempt to try. That being said, you're going to need to buy some bleach and developer. Some people might tell you that 40 vol developer lightens more than any other volume... It doesn't. They will all do the same thing, but at different speeds. Putting 40 vol on your scalp feels like red ants biting you all over. Buy 20 volume and save yourself the risk of chemical burns and the pain. Then just apply the bleach to all of your hair. Since you're taking all of it to pale yellow, you don't need to worry about leaving out your roots. If you have long hair, do the last few inches of your hair last. Those parts are more porous and you'll save them some damage by doing this. After your hair lightens to the color of the inside of a banana, you can rinse off your bleach. Then you'll need to tone your hair. You have to use a violet toner to cancel out the remaining yellow tones, or you can buy a toner shampoo. I use toner shampoo (available at your local beauty supply) because it's less of a pain in the ass than toning all the time. You just lather it on for a few minutes in the shower when your hair looks brassy, and when you rinse your hair isn't brassy anymore. If you want to tone without using a shampoo, buy White Lady in Wella's Color Charm line and mix it in equal parts with 20 vol. Apply it to wet hair so your hair doesn't go purple. After you bleach, you can also use a reconstructing product to restore the condition of your hair. K-PAC Revitaluxe by Joico is great. I use it after I bleach and it makes my hair feel awesome.

QUESTION:
Will semi permenant purple hair dye come out of my blonde hair?
I dyed my hair bright purple using semi permenant dye and I REALLY need to get it out (preferably without an embarrasing trip to the hairdresser) is there anything I can do? I have naturally dirty blonde hair that had highlights in it and I want to get rid of the purple and achieve this colour, or at least a colour that I could highlight blonde over without looking wierd...please help me!thanks
-
ANSWER:
Being semi permanant it WILL come out, but your a blonde so it will take it longer to come out. it will fade to a pink or blue color first depending on your hair. To try and wash it out faster use a clairifying shampoo and mix in just a TAD of TIDE laundry soap. THE POWDER KIND. Make a sort of paste with it to wash your hair... make sure you rinse it very well and condidtion condition condition!!You can also try to use a 5 volume developer to lift that color out.. BUT WATCH IT CLOSELY so it doesn't lift too much!! Wash it out as soon as the purple is gone. I don't recommend this method unless you are a professional but it is an option!

QUESTION:
If i die my red hair to blonde will it turn pink?
My friend in beauty school died my hair fire truck red yesterday.. it turned out horrible! i look like a clown. She used proffesional color. if i go by some blonde box color from the store and die it... will it turn pink?-
ANSWER:
Please Do NOT Copy My Answer And Use It >: I Will Be Very Sad.... D:
It won't go blonde, it will go either pink or an awkward coppery red color, the best thing you can do is fade it first, there are a few ways to fade hair without damaging it too much, I'll list a few that have worked for me. I have gone from black to light brown in one day and my hair was a little damaged at first but it eventually got better with proper care and A LOT of deep conditioning. Now, it's a little gross to say this, but one of the best ways to fix the damage is by not washing your hair for a few days so the oils can try and repair your hair. So, here are ways I have faded my hair (from crazy colors like red, purple, blue, green, pink, and a few others)1. Use dish soap, it gets grease out of dishes and helps strip color out of hair, especially semi and demi permanent dyes (works on permanent funky colors too), which is basically all funky color dies. -less damaging but it will dry out your hair so use a hair mask or deep conditioner once or twice a week
2. Buy some blue toned bleach and developer, you can get it from a store like sally's or any beauty supply store for about 5$ (the bleach alone is .50 where i live), mix it with your shampoo, this is a light way to bleach hair and it is less damaging, leave it in your hair for 30 minutes in a shower cap or apply heat as needed (heat helps the bleach develop faster, as you probably know it does the same with all dyes)
-less damaging than just re-bleaching your hair again, but your hair will feel very course after it, if it doesn't all come out the first time wait a week and do it again, this way your hair remains as little damaged as possible.3. Wash your hair with warm or hot water. it opens up the pores in all of your hair and allows for the dye to come out. Dye works by creating a chemical reaction with your hair by opening the pores, inserting the dye, and closing the pores again. Cold water closes the pores and helps lock the color in.
-not damaging4. Wash your hair fairly frequently and the dye will slowly fade away.
-less damaging but will cause your hair to produce a lot of oilHere are a few hair masks/deep conditioners I recommend:
Garnier Fructis deep conditioning 3 minute miracle
Aussie 3 minute miracle (any of them)
Schwarzkopf professional BC bonacure hair therapy repair rescue (amino cell rebuild)Don't go blonde right away either, wait a good 6 months for the hair to heal a little because otherwise you could end up over bleaching your hair and it could become brittle and break off.... Sorry for the length-y response
**NOTE** leave deep conditioner on for 1-2 hours, and then go take a shower, towel dry your hair first so it can absorb the nutrients in the conditioner better, and only use it if your hair has reached the color you want, otherwise it could help hold the color in. These are only products and tricks I have used so there are plenty of other good ones you can try but I wanted to recommend the ones that worked for me. If you have any questions or concerts please email me at cassie.ferris.loves.you@gmail.com, the email I am using o answer this has too many messages and I wouldn't be able to respond to you within a reasonable amount of time.

QUESTION:
How do I get the orange out of my bleached hair?
So I don't even know exactly what Im trying to get my hair to look like...I just impulsively bleached it, but Im definitely not aiming for orange. I bleached it and it came out bright orange. I bleached it again and it is a little lighter orange. I went to Sally's and they told me to use a toner on it so I used a pale blonde toner on it which lightened it a tiny bit but I only left it on 4 minutes because they said it would turn grey if i left it on any longer. Is that true? Then I used a high-lift blonde dye with a brass color remover mixed in it which pretty much did nothing but make my hair a little pinkish. I have no idea what to do from here...and my hair is beginning to be a little damaged. Any ideas? I know I should probably wait a long time to touch it with anything...but Im impatient and impulsive with hair so keep that in mind
Thank you to the girl with no name!
That helps alot!-
ANSWER:
oook i just went thru this like 2 months ago and my hair is the color i want almost. trying to get it white
but everytime u bleach ur hair can be slightly wet and drench your hair in olive oil or argan oil before you bleach i know it sounds crazy but it works exactly the same just no damage and mix it with your bleach this saved my hair and also you should try the bleach bath i did this 3 times out of the 6 the ingredients are CLEAR shampoo (so it the bleach will work) and water and your normal bleach and developer mixing...put as much shampoo as the bleach and developer comined and some water i also mixed in alot of oils too..but yup salons would never tell u this because thats how they make there money with the hair disasters lmao..but i had to bleach it like more than 6 times and idk if u can tell in my pic it looks like i barley bleached it...so if its pinky color you should get the red gold color corrector packets from sallys and mix that EVERYTIME u bleach i wish i had known about this could have saved me money but i found out after the fact...and once its to the bright orange yellow stage you can get the wella silver lady t14 toner the blue based and put that on..it slightly darkens the blonde but no orange and most likely you'll only need to bleach it again (with the oils) with the red gold color corrector and it should be bright yellow and you can use the wella white lady t18 the purple based toner and that will give u my color ..and buy the shimmer lights purple shampoo asap that will gradually tone ur hair with the process your going thru..and buy the ion protein treatment packets and I bought AUSSIE 3 minute miracle from like walmart or a grocery store and that works so good you can also mix that with conditioner and it works even better,,and buy a hair serum spray and conditioning spray that really helped my hair everyday...and im assuming u know not to re bleach the roots cuz im sure those took the best..wait for that till u match the bottom ends with the roots..and yup..good luck cuz its worth it
D ahaha im very inpatient too i made sure it wasn't orange within 2 days i just dealt with the gold yellow shitt color hhaaha but i hope i made sense and was helpful

QUESTION:
If i apply Loreal hair color remover twice in one day will it damage my hair?
I heard that using one bottle of Loreal hair color remover wont be enough to reomove my hair color considering i want to go bright blonde (almost white) so i want to do this before the summer is over, so will it be very damaging to my hair if i use loreal hair color remover twice on my hair in one day and then bleach it the next day or 2 days after that?-
ANSWER:
if you are going to use bleach, you wont need color remover, as bleach is a decolorizer in itself.mix blue powder bleach with 40 volume developer. apply all over your head, put a plastic cap on to keep it moist and give it a good 45 minutes.
your hair will then be an orangy color. dont panic, this is the first step of decolorizing. loreal color remover will give you the exact result.
now, you are going to tone it with a level 12 lightener blonde violet color.
you will still see traces of light yellow in your hair as it is impossible to get white hair by coloring it. if you look at kelly osbourne, she ends up with violet hair for a while because she wants white and you need violet to eliminate yellow.buy a shampoo by matrix called goSilver. it is a purple shampoo, that lathers white, but will remove yellow tones over time.
this is a process you will n ot get immediate results with...altho you will get very close the first time.
in one month, when it is time to retouch, use the level 12 color again but this time with a 10 volume developer (you wont need a 40 because you are not lifting 4 levels as you are already blonde now). then you will have your desired shade.im suure you will want to double bleach it but you will end up with hay for hair that will break off all over the place.

QUESTION:
How do I get white blonde hair ??
I have naturally blonde hair pretty light colour. I want white / platnium hair. I have highlights in my hair at the moment and its pretty white bit it tends to have dark bits underneath. I have tried all over dye and then highlights but it makes it brassy. I have asked many hair dessers but they are reluctant. My hair is in great condition for the colour and tends not to dry out. I also use keune purple shampoo to keep it bright as possible. can anyone help ??-
ANSWER:
Use 40 volume bleach powder- you can get it at Sally's beauty Supply or a similar shop. You'll mix it with the cream developer and then apply the paste onto the hair. This will strip your hair and make it very dry. the longer you leave it on, the whiter it will get. Remember to wash it out as soon as you have the desired result, because it will continue to work until you do so.You'll want to use a very intensive conditioner after this process.

QUESTION:
How do i get Yellow to white?
I bleached my hair and it came out yellow i cant seem to get it blonder I want it white-
ANSWER:
There are a couple of ways. First is your yellow hair must be a pretty light yellow to begin with. Cannot be orange or even dark yellow in any way or these methods probably won't work correctly. If it's not light enough bleach once more before doing either of these.
You can get a purple based shampoo which cancels out yellow/brassy tones in hair. It's called Shimmer Lights and about at Sally's. Don't get the conditioner, it leave your hair grimey feeling. It tones your yellow hair only so much though so if it's still kind of yellow after a week or two it means your hair needs to be lighter before using the shampoo.
Or you can get a toner at Sally's called White Lady (T8 I think), mix it with developer, and apply to hair. It takes out most yellow tones. After doing this upkeep with the Shimmer Lights shampoo every couple times a week. Don't use too much or you could start to get a gray or purple tint to your hair. Just use it enough to keep your white hair white and not yellow.

QUESTION:
how can i tone bleach blond hair without it turning silver?
iv done it before because i wanted the blonde to be white! n it turned a silver base because of the purple toner im guessing...ne ideas how to not make it do that? or what i can buy???-
ANSWER:
The reason it turned silver is because you left it on too long. In my experience always leave the toner on less than the box tells you too. You can always go back and re-tone it a second time, but you can't always un-tone it.Get a blue or violet based toner, mix it up using 20v developer, and first do a strand test. Then apply it to the whole head and watch it minute by minute. If it starts to turn silver, bluish, purpleish, or grey on your head wash it out immediatly.
If you do end up going silver or grey, just wash your hair a million times with dandruff shampoo or detergent.
I use Wella T10 Ivory Lady. I only really had to leave it on 5 minutes (and the box said 30.....holy crap!)

QUESTION:
How exactly do i bleach my hair?
Can i please has specific instructions on how to bleach hair?? Thanks!!-
ANSWER:
Go to a professional, blah blah blah, why pay 100 dollars when you can spend 20? I hate it when you ask for advice and people can never give it.SO, I will try to help you and explain what worked for me. I don't know what color your hair is or if it's already dyed but I'll just give you the whole shpeel. I was at a medium brown with a dark burgandy panel. I could NOT get my red to fade and always came back after covering it. So, the first step, if you're DYED red, you're going to need to strip the color out. I used One n' Only Colorfix, it's in a yellow box and you can get it at Sally Beauty (every product I mention I bought at Sally) I knew if I tried to bleach over the red, I'd be orange... not ideal. Lol Stripping brought me to a nice strawberry blonde/light red. Next, I bleached with Clairol 7th Stage Creme Hair Lightener, I used the whole bottle along with 3 packets of the Clairol Professional Lightening Activator (you need these for this specific type of bleach), and mixed both with a 30 vol. creme developer. All of the mixing instruction are easy to follow the packaging. This bleach is amazing! It is probably the most gentle bleach I've used, highly recommend to anyone. I applied this all over my head and processed for the full time specified. This brought me to a light banana yellow. After rinsing, I applied my toner. The toner I used was Wella Color Charm Liquid in #T10 mixed with the same developer, or you can get a small bottle of 20 Vol., that won't be as harsh right after bleaching. I left it on for about 15-20 minutes, and voila, my hair was a gorgeous pale blonde.
Now, for touch ups, I just use Prismlites Violet mixed with my 20 Vol. developer on my new growth, then follow up with toner again. I also use purple shampoo regularly.

QUESTION:
How to bleach your hair properly?
Hey i want to bleach my hair and then apply a purple dye. Im not really sure how to do it. Ive dyed my hair before but only using supermarket boxes..which dont come out great.
Can someone give me some advice or links or steps on how to do this properly and simply please. and what il need to do it

ANSWER:
Hey there,I have dyed my hair all sorts of fantasy colours including electric blue, purple, pink, aqua and orange.
What you'll need:
- Hair lighting kit (in the UK they're called highlighting kit, in the US you can get the bleach and developer from Sally's Beauty Supply
- Gloves
- Foil
- Shower cap
- Fantasy colour (purple) - In UK the Stargazer brand is brill, US Manicpanic is awesome
Steps:
1) Bleach your hair. Mix the bleach powder and cream developer according to the instructions.
2) Apply to your hair in layers. If you have naturally light hair do your roots last. If you have naturally dark hair, do your roots first. Make sure you do this in sections, otherwise you'll get really confused.
3) After each layer make sure you wrap each section in foil
4) Once you have finished place a shower cap on your head. Leave for about 20-30 minutes, have a peek to see how its coming along every now and then. If you wish to you can choose to blow dry your hair (with the shower cap on) for about 10 minutes. The purpose of the shower cap is to keep the bleach moist. Once the bleach dries out, it will stop working.
5) Wash your hair with loads of conditioner.
6) Leave your hair to recover from the bleach for about three days. Try to avoid styling it with heat between this time to prevent further breakage.
7) Sometimes fantasy colours need to be applied on wet hair, sometimes on dry. Check the instructions first. Mix and apply the fantasy colour in layers again. Leave your roots until last!
8) Wash and condition according to the instruction.Hair Colour Maintenance
- To keep your colour looking fresh and vibrant as possible here are some steps you can take...
* Wash in colder water, this closes your pores and locks the colour in.
* Mix 1/2 of your favourite conditioner with 1/2 a container of purple hair dye. Use this in you shampoo and conditioning routine so you can wash colour into your hair instead of out.Sorry for the lengthy response, but I hope this helps!

QUESTION:
Lightening hair with permanent hair dye already in?
So, I have been dying my hair dark red for a while now but I'm getting sick of it fading so fast. I would like to go back to a light blonde for summer. My natural color is dirty to light blonde and my current hair color is at a faded red with my roots a bit darker red. My ends are a bit damaged from bleaching unsuccessfully a few month back, so I would like to do something that wouldn't kill my hair but get it back to a light blonde. Any suggestions will help, thank you!-
ANSWER:
Well first of all hair is not alive, so you cannot "kill" it. Once you have dyed your hair that color is gone forever, and once you have dyed it the one and only way to lighten is to bleach. Dye deposits molecules into the hair shaft and bleach disperses them, the fewer molecules you have the lighter the color and the weaker the hair shaft. Once you have bleached you can lift with dye. You are going to need to invest in a salon brand conditioner to repair this damage. To go lighter you will have to bleach, then I strongly suggest that you cut some of the ends off, you really will just have to by the end. So you can bleach with a 30 volume developer, since the roots are darker go ahead and apply the bleach over your entire head, and stand in the bathroom to watch to process, follow the directions directly (and make sure that you mix the bleach really, really well). Since bleach foams a bit it will always look lighter than it is, so after the recommended processing time rinse of a piece with a wet washcloth (which will make it a little darker since it is wet), and decide if you want to wash it all out or wait 5 more minutes. Rinse this out with lukewarm water very, very well. Towel dry.
Then you will have to tone it with an ash blonde dye in the color that you want. It has to be an ash to tone out the red, and use the same developer that you used with the bleach. This will give you blonde. But since you are going over red it still may be a little too warm for you. If it is, go to the store and get a toning shampoo, Simply Silver is a good one. It is a dark purple shampoo that traditionally elderly women have used to tone yellow out of their gray (don't buy the stuff for blonde hair, that is not nearly strong enough and way over-priced), we use it to tone out warms. It will run about -5. Don't worry, it will not turn your hair purple. If you need any help let me know and I am happy to do anything that I can!

QUESTION:
Do i have to use developer when toning down brassy blonde?
is it possible to just use the toner part of the mix that comes from sally beauty by itself? do you have any other suggestions to tone down brassiness, besides pigment shampoo? thanks!http://www.sallybeauty.com/hair-toner/CLAIRL17,default,pd.html
-
ANSWER:
some toners need developer others don't if it says to mix with developer then do as without it it will be pure pigment on your hair and its bound to be a disaster.
Wella do some great toners 8/81 or 0/6 in their colour fresh ranges are fantastic and they can be used like a shampoo.
John freida Sheer blonde platinum to Champagne range is also good for keeping your blonde clean. There's also a john freida mousse that's purple, it's designed for blondes to keep blonde clean and avoid brassy tones.
Also you should only yo use clear or white or violet shampoos and conditioners can add brassy tones into your hair.Hope this helps!! x

QUESTION:
How to even out bad highlights?
I just got my hair highlighted blonde like I always do, but for some reason this time my roots ended up having an orange tint. What can I buy to help even it back out to a medium blonde. And where can I get this..thanks so much!
this highlight was done at a salon..80 freaking dollars..do I need to just go buy some toner from somewhere-
ANSWER:
you need a toner. i use this when my high lights come out to brassy looking or "orange" like yours. its called "towhead" its by clairol and you can get it at sallys. just tell them you need a towhead toner and they should know what youre talking about. you mix the whole bottle with 2 ounces of 20 volume clear developer (clairoxide) you can get that at sallys too. mix it all up apply to your roots and high lights for about 10-15 minutes and you should be good. if you find that they are still brassy looking grab a bottle of "shimmer lights shampoo" its a purple shampoo meant for blond that eliminates yellow and orange tones.hope this helps =] and good luck!

QUESTION:
How to get my hair silver/white?
So I had red hair then I bleached it and it turned light orange and then I dyed it light-brown red over.
I used a hair dye bleach from cvs but I was thinking if I used that blue powder stuff and like 40 developer and left it in for an hour then I would bleach my hair very light and use a toner shampoo and conditionert to achieve the color I want.
I guess my question is do you think my hair will turn orange? what can I do to prevent this?-
ANSWER:
I recommend using a peroxide bleach. Dark hair is naturally yellow-orange when the pigments in the medula are removed. In order to achieve platinum blond, you need to dye your hair slightly purple to cancel out the yellow of bleached hair.
Mix a pink or light blue hair dye with a conditioner to delete some of the colors.

QUESTION:
Can you dye your hair platinumn at home?
Like with a kid? Or maybe just bright blonde, to save miney-
ANSWER:
Here's a useful hint if you don't want to look like a white trash prostitute: Don't color your hair with something you bought from walmart.
Go to Sally's, you can shop there without a cosmetology license. Pick up some bleach and some 20 volume developer. Anything over 20 vol isn't necessarily safe to use on your scalp, and they all lighten hair the same amount, just at different speeds. You will also want to buy one of these two things: Wella White Lady toner, or Clairol Shimmer Lights shampoo. Or another purple shampoo.
Mix your bleach and developer as per directed, then apply it to all of your hair about 1 inch away from the scalp. When it's all on, go back and apply the bleach to the inch you left out. Wait for it to process to pale yellow, like the color of the inside of a banana. Then rinse your hair very well with warm water and shampoo it. If you bought your purple shampoo, this is your last step. If you buy toner, towel dry your hair, mix your toner with developer as per directed, then apply it to your hair. Watch very closely... It will only be on for a minute or two. Then rinse and do not shampoo.

QUESTION:
if you mix purple brightining shampoo with 20 v cream developer?
will it do anything? will it take my orangey tones out of my blonde hair?
just useing the shampoo alone is not doing anything-
ANSWER:
In tI'm a professional hairdresser.. so in the long run.. it wont to anything anyways. you can't mix developer and colored shampoo and pray for a hair color permante change. putting the developper on your hair would only damaged your hair.
If you wanna get rid of the orange. you just need to apply your purple shampoo to your wet hair, remove all water to your hair, let you hair set for 5 to .. 10 mins, rinse it off

QUESTION:
I want to dye a few pieces of my hair purple? How do I do this and what do I buy?-
ANSWER:
First, you need to get hair bleach if your hair is anything darker than a light blonde.Using a cap will make this whole process easier, so that you can find all of the bleached strands after you wash:
I recommend that you dont use drugstore bleach, go to a beauty supply store for much better results. Get some powder bleach, and 30 or 40 volume developer depending on how dark your hair is. (The darker the hair, the higher the number you will want)The powder or bleach should tell you exactly how much to mix of this, but if for some reason it doesnt, you want the mixture to be the consistancy of a slightly runny paste.
Apply on the chunks of hair, starting with the ends, fold it up in a good size square aluminum foil. If your hair is on the darker side, you can heat the foil with a hairdryer to enhance the bleaching process every 10 minutes or so. Be sure to keep an eye on the hair, some people's hair will lighten really quickly compared to others.
After it seems the the hair will not lighten anymore, or you have achieved the blonde that you want, wash it out with shampoo, do not condition.
The absolute best product I have found for flourescent colors like purple is called Splat. It is the only one that I have ever used that does not fade out(atleast not for a long time), and gives the brightest color. I dont use the bleach, because I prefer the really good stuff. You may be able to find it at the drugstore, if not you can get it online here:
http://www.developlus.com/products/splat/index.html
Follow the directions for the splat and apply it to the bleached strands (obviously), and you should be good to go.
On a side note: Depending on how dark your hair is, whether or not you have already dyed your hair, and your personal hair texture, the bleach may not give you the blondest blonde, and instead turn a light strawberry blonde on the first bleach. This can probably be still covered with the purple, although it will be a darker purple than you may want.
And as always, going to the salon is pretty much always the best way to go, but I can understand if you cant or something for financial reasons. =)
Good luck!

QUESTION:
Is it ok to highlight my hair after i just dyed all my hair brown?
I want to buy a honey blonde frosting kit cause i dont have 100 dollars to spend at the salon right now. im just dont want my highlight to be brassy or orange-
ANSWER:
Blah, it'll just make your hair a brassy orange color. I've tried it/been there. When I wanted highlights, I did it myself. It's fairly easy. What I did was buy bleach (hmmph, at Sally's it was about... for a small package of it, but that's a LOT of bleach for highlights, way more than enough.) BW2 from Clairol Powder Bleach was the kind I used. I mixed it with Ion Sensitive Scalp developer in 20 v., but you can use a 30 v. to get slightly quicker results. A 40 or a 50 volume will just pretty much fryyy your hair.
Leave the bleach on for no more than an hour.
When I bleached it, the color got brassy/orange-y, but that's expected. So, what you have to do is use a purple toner to remove the orange-ness from your hair. It balances it out and gives you more of an ash blonde shade in your hair.
You can try using the frosting kit and then buying a purple developer though, hahah. I've never tried it/heard of it, but I do believe it's about the same process. Also, be sure to use a shampoo for color-treated hair.
after you bleach it like this it'll get damaged.
i recommend 'color me happy' from herbal essences.Well, hope this helped a bit. ^^

QUESTION:
What is the difference between Semi- permanent and Demi- permanent?
Hair dye? like blue or purple?-
ANSWER:
Found this online. I think it's a great explanation:Semi-Permanent Hair Colour
can be recognized by stylists applying colour directly from the bottle onto the hair
contains no ammonia
is not mixed with a developer such as peroxide, so colour is deposited on the outside of the hair
the hair cuticle is not lifted (because no developer is used) so there is no lifting of existing colour
lasts four to six shampoos
used for tonal changes, adding shine, or for temporary fashion colours like fuschia or royal blue
example: Paul Mitchell InkworksDemi-Permanent Hair Colour
contains no ammonia
is mixed with an activator, such as peroxide
activator lifts cuticle slightly so colour sits in and under the cuticle
lasts 18 to 20 shampoos
fades gradually and then washes out to the original colour of the hair
used for toning, changing tone, filling in highlights, and going darker
good way to temporarily change hair colour to try something new
also recommended to colour hair that is already significantly damaged or over processed
example: PM Shines by Paul MitchellHope this helps !

QUESTION:
Orangey yellow hair tried to go blonde from medium brown what now?
i used ice blonde xxl swartzgof and it turned my hair ginger , my mom wont let me die my hair again for another 6 weeks because she thinks it will fall out
How can i controll the orange colour or tone it down??
Thanks-
ANSWER:
First of all, your hair will not fall out unless you bleach it to the WHITE stage... and you wouldnt do that, would you?!?! The safest thing to do is buy a purple shampoo and conditioner... If you mix the shampoo with a little water in a spray bottle and apply to dry hair, then leave it in 15 minutes or so before rinsing, you will have effectively toned your hair and taken out the yellows and oranges... BUT, you could also go for a high-lift color (in Schwarzkopf, they are the ones that begin with the number 12) If you buy the 12-1 ASH BLONDE you will only need to process for about 10 minutes to bring your hair to a natural looking, non-orangey blonde shade! i promise your hair wont fall out:) And you can buy 20 vol developer rather than 30 or 40 to be extra gentle to those locks! Hope i have offered some good input! Good Luck Honey! Cheers:)

QUESTION:
Okay so now i'm thinking about bleaching my hair?
I posted before already, but no one really told me what i could do at home. Because i cant go to a salon, how could i bleach my hair at home?
I have dyed black hair, and i've heard that you have to bleach it, and then when you use the dye in the box it will actually come out the real color.
I want to be a subtle warm blond.
Any suggestions on what color to dye it?
And how can i bleach my hair safely, without frying the hell out of it?
Thanks ahead!-
ANSWER:
You cannot safely bleach your hair without frying it, especially since your hair is black. So first of all you have to bleach it, get bleach and a 40 volume developer, mix it in equal proportions. Apply this to your hair 1/2 inch from the scalp and ends (apply it there halfway through processing). Bleach exposes the undertones in hair as you lift, they range from red underneath black through orange that is underneath browns and yellow that is underneath blonde. So when you bleach that black hair it will turn pumpkin orange. Then you will need to tone it with a dye. If you want a warm blonde then get the level of blonde dye that you want but it has to be a neutral tone: not warm and not ash! This will give you a warm blonde. If you feel that it is still too warm then get a shampoo called simply silver. It is dark purple and will tone out brassy tones to give you a less warm blonde. Now when you do this your hair will be trashed, that is just the fact when you are bleaching black hair to blonde. Get a salon quality conditioner. Wash out your shampoo in hot water and apply the conditioner. Blow dry your hair on high heat for 15 minutes and let it sit for 5. Wash that conditioner out in cold water. This will do a really good job of repairing your hair. But drugstore junk won't work so don't waste your time on it.

QUESTION:
Will a purple toning shampoo solve the sun-in problem?
My hair is naturally a light blonde, but i want it a light light blonde, because my hair is darker underneath when i use sun in it makes my hair light but with a warmer/Orange blonde, i was wondering if i used a purple toning shampoo would it get rid of this brassyorangeness? thanks x-
ANSWER:
Generally it is good idea to use purple shampoo, providing you do not leave on your hair too long ( one to two minutes max) in bid to avoid blue hair. It does not tone the hair as such, tough. You may want to mix the purple shampoo with some 10 volume developer cream and a bit of powder bleach and leave it on for something like ten minutes - you need to look in the mirror all the time and CHECK the colour constantly.

QUESTION:
How do I turn my haor white?
My hair is already blonde but I dont know what to do from here-
ANSWER:
Try bleaching it with 40 volume creme developer and powder bleach. Leave the bleach on for 35-40 min with a plastic bag wrapped on top of your head wash it out with cold water.. Then you will need to buy a toner to turn it white. I suggest WELLA #T18 and mix a splash of WELLA #050 Cooling Violet mixed with 20 Volume creme developer. You will also need a purple shampoo like CLAIROL SHIMMER LIGHTS to turn the hair WHITE WHITE! This is the process I did 7 days ago and my hair is white/gray and I LOVE IT!! All the stuff you need is available at SALLY BEAUTY SUPPLY or at any other beauty supply store! It's quite a long process(well I had brown hair so for you idk) but don't give up keep trying! .00 is the most you'll spend trust me.... For blonde hair that price is a BARGAIN!!!
email me pics if you do it!! Or if you have any more Q's... Ferraripinkcar@yahoo.com

QUESTION:
How is hair toner used?
When you use toner do you put it on separate from the bleach or is it all mixed together? What kind of toner is best when looking to get rid of yellow/bronze tones.? Is it EXTREMEly damaging?
Do i need to use it right after bleaching or can i use it the day after?-
ANSWER:
It is seperate to the bleach. Think of it like this, bleach basically lifts all the colour out of your hair, anything you put in the bleach will get "bleached" out. Like when you spill bleach cleaning prdoucts on your clothes and it takes the colour out?
So after you have shampooed the bleach out of your hair, towel dry it really well.
Get a purple or blue coloured toner (usually a colour mixed with a developer to counteract any gold) and apply it to where it is most yellow. Massage it in and leave for as long as it takes to change the colour (anywhere from 3 - 20mins)
Be careful not to put any on the parts that are really blonde because they'll go purple or blue!!
Rinse it out really well and use a treatment/conditioner afterwards.
The toner itself is not very damaging (depends how strong the developer in it is) but the bleach is the part that is damaging so make sure to buy a really good treatment to use for at least a few weeks afterwards.

QUESTION:
How would "deep plum" (L'oreal's 416 Excellence creme) hair colour suit an Indian (dusky) skintone?
And how long does L'Oreal's Excellence Creme Permanent hair colour stay, anyway?-
ANSWER:
Well assuming that you hair is naturally a very dark brown probably close to black (level 1 or 2), it won't look like you dyed it at all except for in sunlight or bright light ...where your hair will look a very deep reddish purple....which sounds pretty nice for the autumn seasonThe hair dye you're planning on using is a level 4 shade and since you're buying it in the box kit, the developer that is mixed with the hair color is not going to be strong enough to get your hair the shade on the box. Honestly those hair dyes are meant for people that are only going no more than 2 levels lighter...if they're going darker it really doesn't matter.
If you really want to get your hair that color you'll have to make a trip to be beauty supply store or the salon.
Here's a chart with the haircolor levels:
http://www.style-hair-magazine.com/images/haircolorchartlarge.jpgTo answer your question about permanent hair color, it's meant to stay in for more than 24 shampoos or more...they do fade out depending on your hair condition and how you take care of it but, they don't fade back to your natural haircolor.

QUESTION:
What is Ashley Tisdale's blonde hair color dye?
Well I wanted to dye my hair like her old blonde hair, but I don't know what it's called.I know it's blonde but what exact color name?-
ANSWER:
same goal ^.^well, first off, you wont be able to do it in a salon.
so, go to your sally beauty supply store.
buy Clairol Pure White 30 Volume Creme Developer (or some other product of creme developer if you want)
NEVER use 40 volume. it will leave your hair in horrible condition.now buy L'Oreal Quick Blue Powder Lightener.
you mix these two together, but you need to watch a few videos to know exactly what you are doing at this part.
you might have to repeat this step a few times until your hair is an ugly banana yellow.
(yuck! i know)then you use the creme developer and mix it with the hair dye.
im going to use Color Charm Liquid Permanent Hair Color by wella.
i recommend the colors princess blonde, white lady (depends if your hair is dark or not for white lady because it can turn your hair grey, so i don't really recommend this one too much), pale ash blonde, and ulta light blonde.nd if you want a golden blonde color, use these:
light blonde, medium Platinum gold blonde, and sand blonde.again, watch many videos before you do this.
you will also need to buy a brush for putting on hair dye, one to two mixing bowels, and gloves.
REMEMBER!
keep bleaching it over and over, estimated, 3times, 40 minutes for each bleach, or until it is banana yellow! very important that you keep that color in your head. it might even be orange yellow.
then dye your hair the color you want.
yes, your hair will be VERY fragile.
wash out the bleach out with purple toner or conditioner and shampoo. purple and yellow cancel each other out, and should get rid of the disgusting yellow some.
use leave in conditioner every day!
and this all should cost about 50 bucks for all the supplies.
watch your videos about how to do it so you wont mess up!

QUESTION:
What Is the best way to bleach my hair? (Picture included)?
I have heard of lemons, peroxide, stuff like that. I want it to be a really light color like almost platinim blonde with black highlights.... What would be a good way to make it like that?
This is what I want it to look like:
http://media.photobucket.com/image/black%20hair%20with%20blonde%20under/UndyingVenom/emo-girl-blonde-black-hair.jpg-
ANSWER:
you are going to need at least a volume 30 developer and a good toner after you bleach it. do not bleach the parts you want black.
here is some information i got- Goldwell Oxycur Lightener and 30 Vol.
ALSO make sure to buy the measuring bowl so you can measure out the developer correctly!
You can buy these three products from hello-gorgeous.net
Additional products: the following products can be found online, or in most drug department stores.
- Hot Oil
- Dumb Blonde Reconstructor
- Silver Expressions shampoo & conditioner
- Fanci Full Ultra White Minx toner (temporary- washes out in one shampoo)
- Igora Gloss Iceflower toner (fades after about 10 washes)it will take awhile before your hair is manageable again. Be patient and very gentle with your hair! Don't blow-dry. If you do, make sure you use the setting where it's cool air, not hot. Don't shampoo for the FIRST week- just use conditioner, hot oil, and the reconstructor.

QUESTION:
purple shampoo turned hair purple?
so the other day i went to wash my hair with shimmer lights purple shampoo and it ended up turning the lighter spots in my hair a grey blue purple color. i went to sally's and asked what i could do to take out the purple. the "licensed" hair stylist i was talking to told me to mix equal parts purple shampoo and developer then put it all in my hair and let it sit for 7 minutes then wash it and condition and wash. so i did and now the spots that were that weird color are now a pastel purple, what's the best way to fix my hair getting out the purple?-
ANSWER:
Use a clarifying shampoo and wash your hair a couple of times. It'll wash out pretty easily. And don't trust a hairstylist that's not working in a reputable, professional salon. It doesn't take much to become licensed.
